Exchange Rate: The South Sudanese Pound (SSP) continued to depreciate across the country between
December 2021 to February 2022. In Juba, the average exchange rate within the three months from
December 2021 to February 2022 was 430.00 per US Dollar in the parallel market, while the official rate
was SSP 433.00 per US Dollar.
The South Sudan food commodities commonly monitored include; nine selected cereal items, livestock
three different type, fish and Petrol price which are frequently consume by households across the country.
Cereals price: Between three months of the market analysis period from December 2021 to February2022,
the price of white and red sorghum grain, maize grain 3.5 kilogram and beans 1KG kept increasing at a
normal rate as shown in Lakes state. The increase is noted as 100%(white sorghum) 100%(red sorghum),
100%(maize) and 15% (beans), between December 2021 to February 2022 respectively. In the same
monitored market, food price in the Upper Nile state market witnessed a significant increase by 100% for
white sorghum, 48% for red sorghum, 100% for maize and 100% for beans prices over the last three months
as compared to other states of South Sudan. In Western Equatoria state, prices of red sorghum, white
sorghum, maize and beans decreased by 7%, 25%, 33%, and 2% respectively in the last three months as
compared to the previous month (Figure 1and 2)
