The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) is delighted to present the official Results of the modelled Population Estimation Survey 2021.
The Population Estimation Survey 2021 was conducted from 28th May to 15th June, 2021 in the ten (10) states and three Administrative Areas. The Survey is to provide accurate population estimates and other demographic and socio- economic characteristics of the inhabitants.
The Population Estimation Survey (PES 2021) counted all people who were present within the boundaries of South Sudan during the reference night.
The counting was done in the selected sites within the Ten (10) states and the three (3) administrative Areas, based on the satellite imagery. The Population Estimation Survey includes Internal Displaced Persons (IDPs/POCs) and excludes South Sudanese Refugees as well as foreign Refugees inside South Sudan.
The Survey results will be used for development Planning, decision –making and provision of services; monitoring the performance of National Development strategy as well as the sustainable Development Goals; drafting policy briefs for policy makers; and reference points for research
In September 2022, the Economic Cluster, chaired by His Excellency the Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan and Chairman of Economic Cluster, approved the modelled Population Estimation Results and passed the same to Council of Ministers.
On March10, 2023, the National Council of Ministers, chaired by His Excellency the President of the Republic of South Sudan, endorsed and approved the final Population Estimation Survey 2021 Results.
