The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) is the official statistical agency of the Republic of South Sudan. ItIs mandated to collect, analyze and disseminate all official economic, environmental, social and demographic statistics. It is charged with conducting all censuses and major surveys within the Republic of South Sudan, as well as establishing statistical standards for all data collection. It is also tasked with monitoring the impact of
public policy and tracking South Sudan’s progress on key development indicators.
The National Bureau of Statistics has carried out a number of large high-profile data collection activities.
Most notable among these was the 2008 Population and Housing Census. NBS also conducted the 2006 and 2010 rounds of the Sudan Household Health Survey (SHHS), which generated health indicators such as child malnutrition and mortality, and the National Baseline Household Survey (NBHS) in 2009, which generated poverty estimates. NBS produces regular statistical bulletins on consumer price index (CPI) inflation, agro- meteorology and food security. This is the fifth annual Statistical Yearbook.
