NBS and FAO Launches 2 Week STATA Statistical Software Training in Juba

JUBA, South Sudan - The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), kickes off two-week STATA Statistical Software Training training running from August 3-14, 2026.

The hands-on training program brings together 15 to 25 statistical analysts, research officers, economists, and M&E professionals from government ministries, academic institutions, and development organizations across South Sudan. Designed to strengthen national statistical capacity, the program focuses on advanced data management, analysis, data cleaning, and automated output generation using real world national datasets.

Speaking at the opening session, Hon. Dr. Augustino Ting Mayai, Director General of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), urged trainees to dedicate their full attention to mastering the analytical software to help bridge South Sudan's data capacity gaps.

Nicolas Kerendi, FAO Representative, said the training is critical for interpreting and communicating data in a way that everyone can understand, ensuring accurate and effective decision-making across all sectors.

Over the next 10 days, participants will progress through eight thematic sessions covering reproducible analysis through do-files, complex data merging, loops, and custom descriptive output generation to support evidence-based policy formulation, program monitoring, and national planning.
