The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) of South Sudan and the World Health Organization (WHO) South Sudan Country Office have signed a Project Collaboration Agreement (PCA). This partnership establishes a robust framework to strengthen the national health information system, enhance statistical capacity, and advance evidence-based health policy and planning across the country.

This joint initiative links survey data to localized health service provision, allowing policymakers to identify underserved communities, strategically expand grassroots initiatives, and measure financial protection for vulnerable households.

Hon. Dr. Augustino Ting Mayai, Director-General of the NBS, emphasized the significance of the agreement, stating that it represents practical steps toward a more coherent and nationally anchored approach to evidence generation in the health realm. Dr Mayai thanked WHO for their continued partnership with the Government and the people of South Sudan.

WHO Representative, Dr. Humphrey Karamagi, said Investing in statistics is investing in health while stressing the importance of better data for better policies, programs, and outcomes for South Sudan.

Under this comprehensive PCA, the NBS and WHO will collaborate across several priority areas, including Health-Related Research & Surveys, Statistical Analysis & Knowledge Products, Institutional Capacity Building (such as technical training and career development opportunities) Health Systems & Financing Analysis and Data Quality & Governance.

The agreement represents a shared commitment to accountability, integrity, and transparency. By ensuring that investments are placed precisely where they are needed most, and that disease surveillance works proactively, this partnership aims to build a healthier South Sudan where every citizen benefits from sustainable development.
