NBS and UNDP Launches Power BI Training Program

September 8, 2026 ★ Featured

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has launched a digital data analysis and visualization training program focused on Microsoft Power BI. Funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) under the Strengthening Economic Governance in South Sudan (STEG-SS) project, the initiative runs from September 8th to September 24th 2026 at the NBS Head Office in Juba.

The 13-day program brings together technical staff including statisticians, economists, planners, and monitoring and evaluation officers from the NBS and partner government institutions. Participants will gain practical expertise in data preparation, Power Query transformations, Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) modeling, and interactive dashboard creation.

The curriculum applies Power BI tools to national datasets, including major initiatives such as the National Household Budget Survey (NHBS) and the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey Round 7 (MICS7). Utilizing a Training of Trainers model, the program equips participants to apply these competencies across their respective ministries, departments, and agencies.

By standardizing digital reporting and building skills aligned with the Microsoft PL-300 Power BI Data Analyst certification, the initiative strengthens institutional capacity to turn raw administrative and survey data into accessible insights for policy decisions, public accountability, and national development tracking.
