NBS and FAO Launch Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing Training in Juba in Preparation of the National Agricultural Census

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), launches a specialized technical training focused on Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) application in support of the upcoming National Agricultural Census.

The 10-day training initiative is designed to digitalize and streamline data collection processes across three major census modules: Household, Community, and Non-Household agricultural holdings. This will equip South Sudanese technical teams with advanced CSPro application functionalities, control implementations, and field-testing methodologies.

Hon. Dr. Augustino Ting Mayai, Director General of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), urges participants to take leverage this opportunity with discipline and purpose. "To all trainees, I encourage you to approach this opportunity with seriousness, discipline, and purpose. Focus fully on the knowledge and practical skills being shared." Dr. Mayai further reminds the participants that the country needs data experts that are innovative and capable. "Let this training not simply add to what you already know, but transform how you think, how you work, and how you solve problems. The country needs data experts who are not only technically capable, but also innovative, adaptable, and committed to quality. The skills you develop here should become transformative—skills that improve the way data are collected, managed, analyzed, and used for action."

The successful execution of the National Agricultural Census is critical to generating evidence-based data required for strategic decision-making in food security, agriculture, and rural development across South Sudan.
